When I moved from Japan to the United States a decade ago, I spent a great deal of time observing strangers—how they spoke with their hands, how they shifted their weight between legs, how they moved through the world. I became attuned to how the body, in its most subtle gestures, expresses the fleeting emotions and sensations that words often fail to capture. My work seeks to excavate the relationship between these ephemeral states—anxiety, pleasure, desire—and how we move.
